Elegance made for today’s woman

Meet the woman behind every Van Zyl handbag

Making a legacy, one stitch at a time

About the Founder

Van Zyl Handbags was founded by me, Lynnette Brink, with a simple belief: true luxury should never be rushed. What began as a personal pursuit to master traditional leather craftsmanship has grown into a small independent atelier dedicated to creating heirloom handbags entirely by hand. Every design begins with a pencil sketch, every pattern is developed in-house, and every handbag is crafted using time-honoured techniques that honour the artisans who came before me.

Growing up in Cape Town, South Africa, I developed a deep appreciation for craftsmanship, natural materials and thoughtful design. Rather than creating collections that change with the seasons, I chose to build a permanent collection of timeless handbags named after the remarkable women in my own family—Nicole, Lynn, Kayleigh and Suzette. Each design carries its own personality, yet all share the same philosophy: quiet elegance, exceptional materials and uncompromising craftsmanship.

Van Zyl is intentionally small. It is an independent luxury atelier where every handbag is made to order, allowing me to dedicate the time each commission deserves. From the careful selection of European leathers and responsibly sourced exotic skins to the final saddle stitch and polished edge, every detail reflects a commitment to quality rather than quantity. I believe luxury is not measured by how many handbags are produced, but by the care, precision and artistry invested in each one.

For me, every Van Zyl handbag is more than an accessory. It is a piece of functional art, created to accompany its owner through a lifetime of memories and, one day, to be passed from one generation to the next.

Start your legacy

The ultimate goal of Van Zyl handbags is to co-create an artifact that reflects your own intentionality and story. You choose the leather, the stitching and the hardware; I contribute the hours, the skill and the legacy of the Van Zyl name. We look forward to starting the conversation.
